Connecticut and the Civil War:

A Sesquicentennial Commemoration

In 1993 the Connecicut Commission on Culture and Tourism funded a study of the state's many Civil War monuments.  The study was undertaken by David Ransom, and published by the Connecticut Historical Society.  To date, it is one of the most comprehensive Civil War monuments studies in the nation.

State residents will be amazed at the number of monuments that dot town greens, city centers, and grave yards throughout Connecticut.  Once you begin noticing them, they'll pop out everywhere.  The monuments are without question Connecticut's most tangible connection to the Civil War generation.

To see the entire Civil War Monument study, see the Connecticut Historical Society website
